How we Started

Meet the boy who put the KICKER in KICKcancER. At 2 years old, Kicker Johnson, the son of our founders Season and Josh Johnson, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. His mom is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner with a passion for helping people live their healthiest lives and used her knowledge to help Kicker thrive through his battle with cancer. Other families began seeing Kicker’s remarkable resilience and asked for guidance. As more began to benefit from her knowledge, Season knew she was being called to this movement. A movement to help families not only survive childhood cancer but thrive through it.

We're committed to empowering pediatric cancer families through movement, holistic healing, and community support.

Through our Athlete Program, Thrive Together Talks, and in-person retreats, we empower pediatric cancer families to pursue their passions and discover joy throughout their journey - both during and after treatment.

  1. We provide a healing community through our monthly virtual Thrive Together Talks & and our annual in person Thrive Together Retreats.
  2. We empower cancer fighting athletes through our KICKcancER Athlete’s Sponsorship Program. We believe that play can help healing!
  • Founders: Josh & Season Johnson

On December 2013, Season and Josh's 2 year old son, Kicker, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and he completed treatment in March, 2017. Through their journey, Season and Josh founded KICKcancER. Season is a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and they both have a passion for helping people live their healthiest lives! They have a goal of impacting all 400,000 kids who get cancer each year. You can learn more about Season & her mission at

  • Executive Director: Dana Hinton

With more than twenty years of experience in marketing and sales, Dana combines a wealth of expertise with a genuine dedication to fighting childhood cancer. Her professional journey took a poignant turn following the loss of her sister to ALS, propelling Dana into the nonprofit sector with a fierce determination to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by devastating diseases.

Dana leverages her skills to drive fundraising initiatives and increase awareness for KICKcancER's vital mission. Her unwavering commitment to honoring her sister's legacy through purposeful action serves as a guiding light in the relentless pursuit of helping families thrive through childhood cancer

  • Founding Board Member: Shianne Hayden

Shianne's youngest daughter, Delainey, was diagnosed with Synovial Cell Sarcoma at 15 months old. They know firsthand how the teachings of KICKcancER can change the lives of children with cancer. Lainey was healed in Heaven August 3rd, 2016 at 5 years old. But because of KICKcancER her last two years were amazing. She was healthier than all the other children in her unit, she was off all medicines except her chemo and the entire family was able to make some amazing memories because Lainey felt great and her body was stronger than ever! KICKcancER is a very important part of the Hayden family. They are turning their pain into their purpose by spreading the mission of KICKcancER so someday all children can thrive through their cancer diagnosis like Lainey did.

  • Founding Board Member: Leslie Johnson

As a dedicated member of the KICKcancER board, Leslie brings a unique perspective to supporting families affected by childhood cancer. Her journey into cancer awareness began with personal experiences, including her grandfather's battle with colon cancer and her father's diagnosis of head and neck cancer. These experiences fueled her commitment to ensuring that no family faces this journey alone. Leslie is passionate about bridging the gap between conventional and holistic health practices within the KICKcancER Movement, aiming to offer comprehensive support for both body and spirit. Through education, support, and unwavering dedication, she empowers families with the knowledge and resources needed to fight cancer holistically and fosters hope for a brighter, healthier future.

  • Community Manager: Shannon Scheller

Shannon Scheller's journey with KICKcancER began with her child's cancer diagnosis, sparking a profound shift in their family's approach to life, health, and well-being. Confronted by this challenge, Shannon courageously revamped every aspect of their lives, from diet to daily routines, to support her child's journey to healing.

Inspired by the power of nutrition and holistic living, Shannon and her family have become passionate advocates, eager to share their insights. Today, they stand with KICKcancER, dedicated to empowering families facing childhood cancer with hope, knowledge, and unwavering support. Together, they are steadfast allies in the fight against childhood cancer.
